The Hertford-Northampton Smart Start is accepting proposals for grants providing activities that will offer services to children up to age 5 and their families in Hertford and Northampton counties.  Strong proposals will describe projects designed to provide nurturing and supportive environments and services that allow all families and children to develop socially, emotionally, physically and academically to their fullest potential.  Any interested agency or organization may submit a proposal.

Applicants must be willing to either conduct extensive childcare resource and referrals services which include providing technical assistance and training to promote quality care and education, implement a comprehensive parenting program following the National Parents as Teachers Program using the Foundational & Model Implementation for parents with children birth to age five and in Hertford and Northampton Counties or implement an enhancement program to support the NC Pre-K program.  Applicants must also be able to provide 25% cash/in-kind match.

Applications are available at the Hertford- Northampton Smart Start office and all proposals received by 5:00 pm, March 3, 2022, will be considered.  Grants will be announced in June and funds will be available on July 1, 2021. As things evolve rapidly with regard to the COVID-19 response here in North Carolina, we inform you that we will be working off site with very limited office hours.
